Aussie Made, Reef Friendly, Cruelty Free, Dermatologically Tested... What do these terms mean and why should you care?
Most of us look out for certifications, logos and relevant terms to guide us in choosing a product that will best suit us, but do we really know what they all mean? We’re here to break down some of the terminology and lingo that we use at Bondi Sands, so our Lovers know exactly what we’re talking about, and why we’re talking about it!
What Does Aussie Made Mean?
It means that no matter where you are across the globe, all our Bondi Sands products have been made Down Under in Australia! We’re proud that our products are Australian owned and made, using premium quality formulas that we know our consumers will love. Our ranges of self-tan, suncare, body and more are created and manufactured in Melbourne and distributed to our global warehouses, so we can share the iconic Aussie glow with all our global Bondi Babes! Proudly Australian made and globally loved.
What Does Cruelty Free Mean?
Here at Bondi Sands we’re committed to keeping animals safe and well away from our product development from beginning to end. As a PETA approved brand, we take a strong stance on animal cruelty and the entire Bondi Sands range is Cruelty Free. Even though animal testing has never been condoned at Bondi Sands, we now share a commitment to keeping our furry friends out of labs, by confirming that we (nor our suppliers) conduct, commission, or pay for any testing on animals for ingredients, formulations or finished products.
What Does Vegan Friendly Mean?
Vegan-friendly means the product doesn’t contain any animal or animal-derived ingredients. All of our products at Bondi Sands are vegan friendly, with the exception of some of our Suncare products which contain naturally derived beeswax. We are currently working closely with our suppliers to update these formulations so that our entire product range will meet vegan compliance in the future.
What Does Reef Friendly Mean?
There are two ingredients, Oxybenzone and Octinoxate, that are widely known to cause coral bleaching when they end up in our oceans or waterways. Our sunscreens are formulated free of Oxybenzone and Octinoxate to help protect our marine life, and we’re committed to evolving our product formulations in the future with the direction of both local and international authorities.
What Does Dermatologically Tested Mean?
If a product has been dermatologically tested it means that the final product has undergone testing to ensure it’s safe for your skin! While everyone’s skin reacts differently, if dermatological testing has been carried out, the product is generally considered safe to be applied to the skin and face, however we do recommend patch testing prior to use to determine if it’s safe for your skin specifically. Did you know, all of our face-specific products, whether this be sun or self tanning, have undergone Dermatological testing to ensure it’s safe for your skin?
What Does Non-Comedogenic Mean?
You may have seen this term used across some of our face specific products! Non-comedogenic means that our product doesn’t contain ingredients that will block or clog your pores, which would normally contribute to pimples and breakouts. Some of our Bondi Sands face products are non-comedogenic including our Pure Self Tanning Sleep Masks & Face Mists and Face Sunscreens.
Which Packaging Is 100% Recyclable?
Product Recyclability is a key part of our commitment to putting sustainability at the forefront of everything we do, ensuring we do our part to protect the environment. Our Pure Self Tanning Range is 100% recyclable and made from recycled materials, paving the way for our remaining products to follow. We continue to actively source innovative technologies across the globe that push the boundaries on sustainable and recyclable product packaging, where customers know they are making the right choices for their planet whilst not having to compromise on the effectiveness of their Bondi Sands products.
What Does Ethically Sourced Mean?
Ethically sourcing ingredients is the means of ensuring that ingredients are obtained through responsible and sustainable methods. Bondi Sands Hydra SPF Range includes ethically sourced algae that helps to provide deep hydration.
For our ethically sourced packaging we ensure a percentage of the plastic contains post-consumer recycled materials, meaning we aren't relying on new materials to package our products. In addition, we ensure we always work with suppliers who get audited frequently, to ensure best practise.
